THE Moorings Restaurant leapt on the snooker craze in the early 1980s after starting its own club.

The venue's 'A' and 'B' snooker teams are picture back in 1983 after world snooker star Tony Meo opened the local club facility two years earlier, at a time when the sport gripped the nation on TV with up to 20 million viewers watching big events.

The photo includes a young Mark Cadenhead, who at age of 14 had already won the Scottish Under-19 title.

In the same year, the Boys' Brigade Centenary football match had some well known players lining up.

Former Hearts, Queen of the South and Largs Thistle defender Crawford Boyd took part, as did local referees Preston Glover and Graham Gilchrist, while Gordon Law, who went on to become the President of the Scottish Junior Football Association, also participated.

The picture includes Robert Gilmour, Gordon Law, Al Williamson, Alan Rodgers,Willie Menzies, Steve Crawford, Martin MacPherson, Stuart Henderson, Gavin Dow, John McDoanld, Sam Nicolson,Cammy King, and Billy Jackson.
