Largs Thistle and Ayrshire football legend George Wall's weekly column...

Unlucky for Largs at the weekend.

I only managed to watch the first half but in that time to me it looked as if they could go on to win the game. The team looked confident as were the fans.

It was good also to see a big crowd in the ground. In an after game interview the Clydebank manager said his team only played for 15 minutes yet won the game and to his credit admitted Largs were the better team.

Let's hope for another good turnout on Saturday versus Petershill as the crowd can be the twelfth man!

Overall in the league Beith still sitting top which surprises me as I thought they would struggle this season. Kilwinning Rangers are sitting second bottom, again a surprise.

Their new manager Chris Aitken really has his work cut out, if they want to move up the table he needs to sort out his defence.

Shock this week was Irvine Meadow manager George Grierson leaving the club. It was very much a surprise to club officials. One good thing George did though was transferring Jamie Martin to Largs.

It looks like ex Largs player Kevin Deeney will take over the manager's job at Irvine Meadow for the rest of the season.

Last week I enjoyed watching the Man City v Arsenal game. Not the usual tactical game that switches me off but I thought two teams going for the win. Lots of miss placed passes which would have frustrated both managers but for me that added to the excitement.

This weekend sees the first cup final in both Scotland and England, Rangers v Celtic and Manchester United v Newcastle.

With all four teams doing well at the moment it looks like two great games. Favourites I guess are Celtic and Man Utd but in games like these you never know.

About time though Newcastle won something and Rangers need to go win a cup as the league looks to be out of their reach.

Great to see Pat Rall receiving a long service award from the SJFA, a well deserved accolade.

What a true Largs supporter Pat is. He has always been there through the good times and the bad times for over 50 years. My thanks to Pat for times he helped me. A wee nippy sweetie with a heart of gold.
