Largs Thistle 4 Petershill 0

Thistle celebrated the return of local striker Will Sewell by overwhelming Petershill although Largs prodigal son watched all the goals from the bench, writes Drew Cochrane.

Mind you, when Sewell did come on for the final 20 minutes he might have doubled the score himself as the Barrfields side had the visitors on the ropes for the whole game.

Will won't find it easy to get on from the start if the current attack force continues in this scoring form.

Even with little winger Jamie Martin missing Blair Devine took up a left side berth to add his pace to the speedy strikers David Ramsay and Scott Lewis.

From the opening minute when keeper McNeil had to hold a dangerous McMaster cross Largs were pressing.

The goal came in the 4th minute when Lewis got on the end of a defence splitting pass from Faulds to shoot home.

As if the main forwards were not fast enough wing backs McMaster and McLeod were forever overlapping to pile on the pressure.

The second goal came from the work rate and fine pass from Simon McBryde who found Lewis in the box and again the tall striker picked his spot.

Amazingly, it was 3-0 in the 20th minute when McMaster linked skilfully with Ramsay who kept up his scoring streak with the final shot. At this early point the Peasies made two substitutions but it made no difference.

Young Lewis Davidson hit the woodwork with one of his trademark freekicks and then it was the turn of Ramsay again to scramble home a fourth for rampant Thistle.

The lightning fast Ramsay had the ball in the net again before half-time but was ruled offside.

To understand the one-way traffic consider what happened in the second half, starting with another Lewis effort which hit the post and keeper McNeil saved from the talented Devine.

Faulds, who controlled the midfield with McBryde, was also unlucky to shoot against the woodwork. Under pressure three Petershill men were booked.

There were special cheers when Sewell made his return alongside captain Scott Adam and in the final 20 minutes Will shot wide, had another one saved, and went close a third time.

The keeper spilled yet another Sewell shot and Adam put the ball in the net but was offside.

Adam, making a comeback himself, should have made it five but decided to lay the ball on for Sewell and his pass was not accurate enough.

In truth, it could have been 7 or 8 and next week they visit Arthurlie whom they hammered 5-0 a few weeks ago in the continuing quest for safety in the Premier Division.
