LARGS Cubs are on the lookout for fresh-faced volunteers to help support the town’s young people.

The group has big plans for the year ahead but needs new leaders to give up a few hours of time each month to make them a reality.

Leader Dennis Blair says the group is looking forward after bouncing back following the pandemic.

He said: “We've built up the sections again after losing a few kids who became used to being at home.

“But all the sections are doing really well and have good numbers - and we’re looking to grow that further in the coming months.”

Dennis added: “We are in the process of planning our camps for this year and we want to get the youngsters out and about more hiking in the local area.

“One of our favourite walks is from Portencross Castle to Fairlie Gardens, where we hold quite a few of our activities and party nights.”

Dennis is urging those interested in becoming a leader to get in touch.

He said: “We are struggling to find volunteer, like every other group. I would be so grateful if people could get involved.

“Groups like ours can close at time because of a lack of numbers and we don't want to get to that point.

“There’s a bit of training to do but what we really need is someone who has a passion for working with kids and helping them grow.

“It’s a great chance for younger people to help out and add to their CV, which is always a bonus when they’re applying for jobs, university or college.”
