Roadworks are in place near the junction of Lade Street and Gallowgate Lane in Largs.
Utility company Scottish Gas Networks are behind the closure after Roadworks Scotland listed that the area had had a 'gas escape' at St Columba Court.
The SGN website states under its emergency gas pipe repairs section on its website the following - 'When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance.
"But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night.'
Scottish Gas Network state that they are 'medium impact works' and have permissions to carry on working at the location until March 17.
