It is ten years since the first ever igloo was built on Largs seafront - and it lasted for FIVE days before melting away.

The big freeze happened in 2013 and some students jumped at the chance to make the snow home in front of Aubery Crescent.

A picture of the icy structure, which made Largs look more like the land of the Eskimos, appeared on the Largs and Millport News Facebook site, and received more than 80,000 views.

One passer-by said: "There was huge interest in the Largs igloo throughout the day, and I ventured for a look, and was amazed.

"The wind chill factor yesterday amid some strong gusts must have been -5 to -10 degrees anyway, but inside the igloo, it was very comfortable, and you couldn't feel a thing!"

Three student 'eskimoes' got together to build the homemade snow home, with everyone turning up for 'selfies' at Aubery Crescent.

The idea came about when Gary Crumlish phoned up his friends, and the igloo was built over a period of nine perishing hours with 300 bricks of snow, in the Arctic like conditions.

Gary said: "I received a text from my cousin Ryan Cooper asking about going to Braehead shopping - and I sent back - 'I want to go out and build an igloo for a laugh' and 20 minutes later, we were outside building it - with Ryan and Iain Hodge.
