SNP councillor Alan Hill has given his backing to the new Men's Shed operation at the Brisbane Centre in Largs which opened earlier this month.

The Clyde Coast & Cumbraes Men's Shed was jointly opened by North Ayrshire Provost, Councillor Anthea Dickson and David Gardner, Chairman of the Scottish Men's Shed Association.

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands said: “Congratulations to CCC Men’s Shed on the opening of their new premises.

"The new community space offers a great location and fantastic facilities for men in Largs, Fairlie, Cumbrae, West Kilbride and Skelmorlie to get involved in all the benefits that Men’s Sheds have to offer.

“This project is a great example of how the council’s community asset transfer process can empower local communities to transform underused buildings and bring them back into public use.

“I wish the team an enjoyable next few weeks as local men get used to their new space and come together to feel connected, get help with practical projects and learn new skills.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Conservative councillor Todd Ferguson, pictured above left who on launch day, said: "I was absolutely thrilled to be invited along and take my hat off to Ian Murdoch and the people behind the Mens Shed - it is a fantastic venue and initiative and fully supported by council and local community and more people from surrounding areas - Ian Murdoch has always been upfront that it is not solely a Largs Men's shed and it open for people in Millport, Fairlie, Skelmorlie and West Kilbride to join so hopefully they will get more attendees from further afield."
"It is positive for the local area and a demographic which quite often gets forgotten about and it is a good social networking facility."

“The Trustees have worked hard alongside us in securing the new building and I am delighted that they can now call the Brisbane Centre their home.”
