A young girl is calling on the Largs community to join her on a fundraising cycle in memory of her late dad.

Nine-year-old Isla will tackle Cumbrae on April 16 to raise funds to install a bench in Douglas Park for Zac Baker, who passed away suddenly in September last year aged 31.

Zac was born and brought up in Edinburgh and graduated with a degree in journalism from Napier University before moving to the west coast nine years ago and making Largs his home.

His family told the News last year that Zac was a 'special person who could light up any room with his smile and sense of humour'.

Zac’s daughter Isla is now inviting his family, friends and strangers to join them on the island, with a strict dress code to honour his favourite football team Hearts.

Isla’s mum Colleen Garrett says the youngster wants to have a permanent memory of her dad’s life that everyone can use in the popular park.

She said: “Zac was the life and soul of the party, a kind, supportive and funny friend who lit up every room, pub and Hearts football match he attended.

“He was the best dad Isla could have asked for, and he loved her so much. Since his sudden passing she has been thinking of ways to celebrate and remember her dads life.

“She would like to raise funds for a memorial bench in Douglas Park, Largs, where family and friends can meet to share memories and stories in celebration of Zac.”

Zac worked in William Hill in Largs for many years, and also had a role in the offices of Spectrum Window and Door Maintenance Ltd.

When he wasn’t working, Zac would follow his beloved Heart of Midlothian whenever he could, and also loved trips up the hills to watch the view from above Largs.

Isla has already smashed through her £500 goal, with £2,000 raised so far, and any extra will be donated to Epilepsy Scotland.

Colleen added: “Please join us on her cycle, and you could walk or run instead. Dress code could only be maroon - or a hearts top if you’re lucky enough to have one.

“Please donate anything you can to support this cause, as any further funds raised will be donated to Epilepsy Scotland to support families affected by this condition.

“Thank-you in advance for your support and kindness in memory of Zac.”
