Our weekly football columnist George Wall has his say on the pressing issues in the 'beautiful game'.

A lot has been said this week about Dougie Imrie and Antonio Conte slating their players in public.

The majority of comments I have read seem to indicate they got it wrong and should have kept any comments in house.

I have not met Conte but have met Dougie a few times and Dougie is a manager I would have liked to play for.

As long as both have said what they said in public to the players in house then I have no problem in anything the managers have said. Too many thin skinned players around for my liking.

Shock result of the week in the WoSFL was Irvine Meadow beating Pollok 2-0.

After Irvine Meadow’s showing against Largs I never saw that result coming. Again just shows you how competitive the WoSFL is.

Troon I guess beating Darvel 4-1 was another shock but Darvel have been in free fall since their Scottish Cup exit .

I went to the Greenock v Maryhill game at the weekend with Greenock winning 2-0.

A few ex-Largs players on show playing with Greenock and standing out were Aiden Duffy and Alan Frizzell who both scored. Another one who impressed for Greenock was Liam Lapsley ex Largs Under 20’s player.

It’s been announced by Celtic and Rangers for the final two league games between the sides this season they will not admit away fans. The reason given was for 'security and supporter safety'.

How sad is it that the so called 'showcase' game within Scotland will go ahead without away fans.

I actually don’t know if this is good or bad? Bad that we in Scotland cannot put on this showcase, good that we are avoiding crowd problems but really why can’t our supporters behave.

Go and enjoy the game, don’t cause trouble win or lose. Will the fixture ever become the 'showcase' across the world that we in Scotland think it is ?

Back to international football this coming week with EURO 2024 qualifiers against Cyprus and Spain at Hampden.

The Scotland squad announced is really as expected not much change from previous squads.

No new players and with only four players two of which are goalkeepers, in the squad from Scottish based clubs what does that say about the game here?

Fun and games at Old Trafford, a clear penalty for Man Utd that goes to VAR that results in the Fulham manager and two Fulham players being sent off.

One of the players sent off for the handball that gave the penalty the other two for dissent .

What was going through their mind. It was a clear penalty. After Man Utd scored the penalty they then scored another goal one minute later. How they let their team down .

Two minutes of madness and their out the cup . Until that incident Fulham looked well in control.

Largs Thistle 35’s sponsored by Cullis Amusements played their first friendly game in preparation for the season ahead.

Although on the wrong end of a 4-3 score line against Kilbirnie’s Valley Vets I think we can be pleased with the performance.
