A KIND-hearted Fairlie artist is auctioning and selling two picturesque paintings to help raise cash for charity.

Fredi Newton, who moved to the village six months ago, is hosting am exhibition of her works in the Village Inn from April 3 to 16.

One of her paintings, entitled ‘Peace’ will be on sale to benefit Ukraine, with ‘Silver Serenity’ being auctioned at 5pm on the final day and all proceeds going to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Fredi decided to sell them for the good causes after seeing the work going on to help people across the world.

She explained: "It was a spur of the moment thing to ask the owners of the Village Inn if I could exhibit some paintings there.

"I wanted to help the charities, but I am fairly old and don’t have a lot of money to donate so I thought I could paint some artworks and raise money that way.

"I will have eight in the exhibition, plus the one up for auction, and all are views of Fairlie, which is a beautiful place to paint."

Fredi hopes her creations can take pride of place in a local home, as well as raise vital funds for Doctors without Borders and charities working in Ukraine.

She said: “Fairlie Framers have kindly offered to frame the auction piece which is their contribution towards the charities.

“The ‘Peace’ painting is aptly named as it is a lovely scene and happens to be in the Ukrainian colours, which is nice.

“MSF work everywhere and it is just a charity which is think does fantastic things to help so many people.”

Fredi is encouraging locals to come out and support her exhibition and help to raise cash for the causes in the process.

She added: “I have set a minimum price of £200 for the auction piece, and I’m hoping that could go up a bit more on the day.

“The ‘Peace’ painting is for sale for £330, so both of those together should make a nice donation.

“There is a quiz night on during the exhibition so I’m hoping the pub will be full and there will be lots of interest.”
