A LARGS Thistle legend is proving he is 'Still Game' by signing up to another football season at the age of 64!

George Wall, who lifted the Scottish Junior Cup in 1994, and will be featuring for Thistle over-35s on Friday nights when the season kicks off next month.

George, who turns 65 in July, recently played in the Alara's Little Legs football marathon fundraiser and has also made his debut for Northern Ireland's over-60s - thanks to his Irish granny!

The veteran said: "There is no big secret to playing well into your 60s, I eat healthy and look after myself.

"My favourite food is steak, chicken and pasta - and I don't eat processed food and like to keep myself trim.

"I have a personal training session with ex-St Johnstone and Morton midfielder Chris Millar every week."

George pulled on the boots for Northern Ireland after qualify through his paternal grandmother, who hails from Donaghadee in Country Down.

George said: "We played against England and Wales and managed to win the tournament. It was great fun, but there is still that competitive edge when you pull the boots on no matter what age you are."

Super fit George is looking forward to the over-35s league kicking off and says he can continue to put in a full 90 minutes.

He said: "The matches are quite rigorous but over the past couple of years they have used rolling subs which is quite good at my age!

"I have managed to play the full 90 on a few occasions and it is great getting involved in the camaraderie.

"Every footballer will tell you when they leave the game that what they miss most is the dressing room and the banter

"The over 35s scene has really taken off in Scotland and the level over the years has become much higher."

George popped up with a goal in a charity match a few years ago at Barrfields - but is still waiting for his first goal in the over 35s as a full-back.

He laughed: "I keep joking with managers David Mitchell and Barry Wilson that they should stick me up front.

"If I manage to score that might be it, I might walk off the park and retire.

"I love playing and that is the reason I am still involved - and I hope to be on the pitch for a while yet!"
