Weekly football column with Thistle legend George Wall

Friday night football, what’s not to like, just what Largs deserved. Three points on the road away to Troon. Their recent form has been the best in the league. Good to see Scott Adam back on the scoresheet, how Largs missed him at the front end of the season and what about the forward line that started on Friday.

Ramsay, Adam, and Sewell. As good as Quigg, Halley and McCurdy? Shock for me in the WoSFL is Kilwinning Rangers sitting at the bottom.

Scotland beat Cyprus really as expected in their start to the Euro Qualifiers but left it late to make it a convincing score line after really dominating the game.

It was a good performance. It’s always difficult though against teams you’re expected to beat. So a perfect start but Spain will be a much different challenge. Can Scotland finish in the top two and qualify?

Steve Clarke given a new contract, is there anyone else in the frame for the job that could do better or indeed anyone better that would take the job?

I see Jürgen Klinsmann took on the South Korea job, would he have been interested in the Scotland job?

I just feel we are stuck in the 'same old same old' and need to look outside the box.
Then again we did try that with Bertie Vogts and that did not go well. Let’s hope though we go and qualify for the Euro’s and the World Cup.

Lots of discussion about the new Scotland 150 anniversary strip costing £90 for adults, £70 kids. Yes £90, what a disgrace.

The SFA are just charging too much for this. It’s crazy. Same with the clubs too, the price of football strips is ridiculous.

The non anniversary Scotland kids strips are currently priced at £50 and that is without shorts and socks. It is a lot of money for families.

What about Morocco beating Brazil 2-1, albeit it was a friendly and Morocco did get to the semi final of the World Cup but what a great result. Are the African Nations really coming to the fore . One other result that caught my eye was Denmark getting beat 3-2 by Kazakhstan.

I see ex junior team Bonnyrigg Rose who are now playing in SPFL2 having got there through the pyramid beat Albion Rovers 1-0 at the weekend to get off the bottom of the table. Good on them . I do not want to see them in the relegation play off.
