Stars from Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock are coming to Largs to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.

Derek McInnes and his team will train at Inverclyde National Sports Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday to try and improve their away form.

The side have yet to win away from home in the league this season, picking up just two points from a possible 45 on their travels.

The manager hopes that allowing the players to train on Inverclyde’s grass surface will prepare them for games away from their artificial pitch at home.

He said: “We are training Tuesday and Wednesday on grass just to get that adaptation.

“We’ve trained on grass previously, but unfortunately we have to go out of Kilmarnock to find a decent grass pitch.

“We’ll go down to Largs this week, hopefully it will help us - although we’ve tried it before and it’s not worked.

“We beat Hearts at Tynecastle in the League Cup without training on grass, so it kind of throws that theory on its head.

“Largs is normally pretty dry and has good surfaces. It can get pretty boggy and heavy over the winter, and we thought it was counter-productive over the past few weeks to go down there.

“But in this instance, we just feel it is incumbent on us to try something different.”

Inverclyde is used by many top football clubs every year, especially during the summer break as teams prepare for the new season.
