A hit US country singer admits she fell in love with Largs after visiting the town for a special one-off performance.

Karen Waldrup took time out of her UK tour to play a gig in Room, supported by local artists The Laurettes.

The singer, from Nashville, has travelled across the world playing music and has just released her new album ‘Kendall County Road’.

Karen’s promoter Gary Hume is from Largs, and the singer admits she couldn’t wait to visit after hearing good things.

She said: “This was my second visit to Scotland although it was my first time in Largs. Last year I played at The Ferry in Glasgow.

“We even shot a video at Finnich Glen near Devils Pulpit on my previous visit for a song off my new album.

“I couldn't wait to come back as Scotland is one of my favourite countries I've ever visited, I just love the history and the castles.

“My friend and promoter Gary lives in Largs and he told me all about the place so I couldn't wait to come and visit.”

Karen admits the performance in room was a special occasion, with some fans travelling hundreds of miles for the show.

She has reserved special praise for local singing duo The Laurettes, who even joined Karen on stage for few songs.

She explained: “Lauren and Lynette are wonderful and I have to thank them both very much for being an incredible support act.

“They are both supremely talented and very unique, and they ended up on stage performing a couple of songs with me which the audience loved.

“It was completely spur of the moment but it was one of my favourite moments from the tour, and it was like I had been performing in the band for ten years.

“We will definitely remain friends and hopefully we can do something together again in the future.”

Karen says she fell in love with Largs on her visit, and is already looking forward to coming back in the future.

She added: “I just loved Largs, it was such a beautiful place with the gorgeous seafront and rolling hills behind the town.

“We walked along to the Pencil monument one afternoon and I was amazed how friendly the folk were.

“People walking their dogs stopped to say hello, and I even had to try the outdoor gym which I loved.

“The fish and chips were amazing, I loved the local restaurants, and I just can’t wait to come back again.”
