A Largs Postmistress has said she had no choice but to change the opening hours of the business amid soaring costs.

Susan Craddock, Postmistress of the Largs Post Office in Gallowgate Square, said: "I’ve had to take a long hard look at our business given that the post office consistently don’t pay our fees at a sustainable level.

"All our costs have increased and I’ve had to ‘lend’ the post office side of the business money again to get us through March.

"Therefore I’ve decided that we will change our opening hours and I can only apologise but can’t do anything else, believe me I have tried."

The new post office hours will be as follows:

Monday: 9am - 5pm (closed for lunch 1pm-2pm)

Tuesday: 9am - 5pm (closed for lunch 1pm-2pm)

Wednesday: 9am - 3pm

Thursday: 9am - 5pm (closed for lunch 1pm-2pm)

Friday: 9am - 5pm ( closed for lunch 1pm-2pm)

Saturday: 9am - 1pm

Susan spoke to the News earlier this year about how she had written to PM Rishi Sunak to safeguard the service after revealing she is on tax credits to survive.

She is calling for more financial support as she struggles to make ends meet.

The local businesswoman, who has been running the Post Office in the town for ten years, has had to extend her premises to include the adjoining Tea in the Square cafe just to keep afloat, but warned it is becoming increasingly unsustainable with soaring costs.
