A weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for the rest of the day.
The yellow warning for rain covers Largs and Millport, and runs from 3pm until midnight.
Public transport could be affected and road conditions made trickier.
The Met Office said: "Persistent rain, heavy at times, will extend northeastwards across Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland this afternoon.
"Accumulations of 20 to 30 mm are expected over a few hours with 30 to 40 mm possible over high ground.
"Drier weather will develop across Northern Ireland early this evening and southwest Scotland towards midnight."
