The owners of the popular family-run amusements on Millport seafront are celebrating 50 years on the island.

The seafront crazy golf and rides in the grounds of Garrison House first set up back in 1973, and are still going strong five decades later.

Ross Newton takes charge of the amusements in the Garrison grounds, which includes inflatables and children’s rides.

Brother Jensen runs the entertainment area on the seafront which also includes trampolines, swingboats ride-on cars, and crazy golf.

He believes his family made the right choice settling on the island all those years ago with their equipment.

Jensen said: “We are at the start of the 2023 season for Millport Crazy Golf but it's not just any old year for my family.

“It was early 1973 and we were looking for a place to settle with the funfair equipment we had at the time

“This included mini dodgems, a carousel, a travelling amusement arcade, bingo and an old wooden set of Swingboats.

“It was between Millport and Troon and I think it's fair to say we, along with nine-month-old me, made the right choice.”

Jensen reveals the family will be putting on a series of special events throughout the year to celebrate the milestone.

He explained: “50 years later we are still here, older and hopefully wiser. Millport is our home and hopefully always will be.

“We will be putting on some special events, most likely in June, to celebrate this milestone year for us.”

The seafront attraction was given a fresh five-figure investment last year, with new Hit N Spin Orbiter cars as the highlight.

Jensen told the News: “We had cars previously but these new ones have new technology which take it to a whole new level.

“You steer with a joystick but there is also a button that fires a laser, and if you hit a target on another car it spins it around.

“It’s a bit like a battle and it’s a lot of fun, and is a bit more of an advanced experience than we have had previously.

“We’ve got five of the new cars and we have extended the track so hopefully that can be a real highlight in years to come.”

All prices for the seafront amusements are the same as last year, with each ride costing one token with tokens £3 each.

Visitors can now get five tokens for a tenner, with both cash and card payments accepted.

Unlimited shots on the crazy golf, swingboats and trampolines for one day is £25 per child, one week is £40, half-season passes are £60 and it's £85 for the full season.
