The Cumbrae branch of the Scottish Women's Institute enjoyed a great trip to King Charles base in East Ayrshire.

Dumfries House is one of Britain's most beautiful stately homes. Set in 2,000 acres of land, this stunning estate and 18th-century house with its unrivalled collection of original furniture.

It was saved by the intervention of His Royal Majesty when he was Duke of Rothesay in 2007.

Dumfries House combines the neoclassical architecture of Robert Adam with the furniture of Thomas Chippendale and leading 18th-century Scottish cabinet makers.

Due to its significance and the risk of the furniture collection being distributed and auctioned in 2007 the estate and its entire contents was purchased for £45m for the country by a consortium headed by the then Prince of Wales including a £20m loan from the Prince's charitable trust. The intention was to renovate the estate to become self-sufficient, both to preserve it and regenerate the local economy.

A spokesperson for the Millport based group said: "Cumbrae SWI and friends enjoyed a wonderful day out at Dumfries House.

"Many thanks to Ayrshire Federation President, Ann Young, for dropping by to say Hello."

Kelburn Windfarm helped fund the trip and thanks also go to Millport Motors for their assistance with transport.
