A talented Fairlie artist has raised more than £400 for two good causes after auctioning off her beautiful paintings.

Fredi Newton hosted a small exhibition and auction of her works in the Village Inn, with all proceeds going to benefit Ukraine, as well as the Médecins Sans Frontières charity.

The artist, who has lived in the village for six months, says that although turnout could have been better, she is delighted with the amount raised.

Fredi said: “After lots of interest in the paintings it was a rather disappointing turn out for the auction on the last day.

“However, the winning bid for 'Silver Serenity', to benefit Médecins Sans Frontières, was £210 from Fairlie residents Linda and James McBrearty.

“‘Peace’, which was for sale to benefit Ukraine, did not sell during the exhibition so was auctioned and Mr Lewis Docherty, who happened to be dining in the inn, bid £150 to buy the painting.

“I was blown away by their generosity and alongside two other welcome donations, the total raised for Ukraine was £200.

“I have to say a big thank you to both bidders on behalf of the benefiting charities, and to Village Inn owner Brian Flanagan for his support and his prowess as an auctioneer.

“I would also like to thank his team for accommodating me for two weeks, and to Fairlie Framers for their contribution of the beautiful frame for 'Silver Serenity'.”
