Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

I went to the Morton v Hamilton Accies game last Tuesday night.

It was a good night for Morton and as I was in hospitality I listened to Dougie Imrie’s after match summary in there. About five miutes after the game ended and we took our seats, he came in.

No airs and graces, just good football talk - and straight to the point about his team. So refreshing to hear, nothing about “playing between the lines” or “transition of play” or all the other stuff from a coaching manual but just how he saw the game and how his team played. I hope he does well.

What I also noticed was that there were seven games on that night in the SPFL - on the same night as the Scotland women’s team beat Costa Rica 4-0 at Hampden. Are the SFA doing the women’s team an injustice by playing on the same night as club games - or by allowing SPFL games on the same night? If they want to grow the women’s game why the clash of fixtures?

Dundee United are out to prove me wrong in the Premier League - they are now off the bottom of the table winning against Motherwell. It's still all to play for in the relegation battle.

Another manager has now gone, with Callum Davidson leaving St Johnstone. I think that is now half the teams in the Premier League that will end the season with a different manager than they started with. A crazy number.

It must be about the same number in the WoSFL, with Mick Kennedy of Darvel leaving. Just think about this: Willie Maley was the Celtic manager for 43 years. How times have changed.

The Scottish Junior Cup this season will be competed by Cumnock and Rutherglen Glencairn after both managed to get through their semi finals against Glenafton and East Craigie. I'm hearing, though, that the final will not be televised.

In England, Erling Haaland's two goals for Man City took him to 47 for the season, with 32 of them in the Premier League. Still a few more games left too. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

There was no Erling Haaland in Largs on Friday night, but it was certainly Barrfields for goals as Largs Thistle 35s, sponsored by Cullis Amusements, played out a 5-5 draw with Ardeer. That's entertainment!
