Skelmorlie's Secret Bunker and musuem will be celebrating King Charles III's coronation after securing funding to mark the special occasion.

Curator Frank Alexander is co-ordinating the celebration on the day.

He told the News: "We have secured funding from the National Lottery Fund to run a King Charles coronation event at the post site between 6-9pm on Saturday, May 6.

"We have revamped our site with new exhibits to entertain and amuse.

"This will be a freebie to all our visitors with free food, soft drinks, crisps biscuits. Free competition with prizes during the event.

"Bring the kids and let them loose on the hand operated air raid siren!

"The hot buffet will be obtained from the Clyde Tearoom, courtesy of John Hogan, head chef.

It’s going to be a family evening out, so don’t have your tea before you go - and there are toilet facilities on site.

Frank added: "We had 70 visitors during the Queens Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 and hoping to exceed that number.

"We are located on stage 12 of the Ayrshire Coastal Path which is the old Largs road above the Meigle, approximately three miles north of Largs.

"The single track tarmac road starts at Routenburn golf course and terminates at the Meigle with fantastic views over the Clyde."

Please note that there will be no parking on the museum site, and limited parking on the hedgerows.

Walkers and cyclists will also be made most welcome.

Frank recently received the top Palladium voluntary award at a special presentation by the leader of North Ayrshire Council, Marie Burns.

The accolade was in recognition of some 20 years in restoring the derelict monitoring post and turning it into a valued heritage and museum site.

Skelmorlie is one of the very few restored Royal Observer Corps underground monitoring posts open to the public, after being mothballed when the Cold War ended in 1991.
