The cut and thrust of one of the first battle re-enactments of the Largs Viking Festival has been captured in this week's Largs History Group photos.

Former News photographer Grahame Ross took the snaps at the popular event, and believes the battle in this particular set of photos was feistier than the action in recent years.

He said: "This is one of the early battles of the Largs Viking Festival, if not the first.

"The fighting seems more violent compared to the present battles!"

The battle took place at the Pencil, but can you name any of the faces or the year it took place?
