The Wee Paper has been shortlisted at this year's Scottish Press Awards.

The Largs and Millport News is up for Weekly Campaign of the year for our coverage of the Alara's Little Legs fundraiser, to help raise the money for Alara Kavak to get the life-changing surgery she needs to help her walk.

The paper is nominated alongside our sister title the Greenock Telegraph, as well as The Orcadian.

The Wee Paper covered every fundraiser for Alara, and even took part in the 24-hour football-a-thon which took her over the £80,000 needed to have her life-changing surgery in the US.

The paper picked up second place for Weekly of the Year at last year's awards, and will be hoping to go one better at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow this June.

Alara has been approved for life changing spinal surgery in America which it's hoped will put her on the way to realising her dream of being able to walk on her own for the first time.

Craig Borland, deputy group editor with Newsquest's West Scotland weeklies, which includes the News, said: "This is fantastic recognition for everyone on the Wee Paper who put so much effort into backing the Alara's Little Legs fund-raiser.

"The way the community in Largs has rallied round in support of the campaign has been incredible to see since we reported her story last November.

"Now Alara has undergone successful surgery we're really looking forward to reporting the next chapter in her story. It's been an honour to have helped her along the way."

The Scottish Press Awards will be held in Glasgow on Wednesday, June 7.
