Congratulations to the Largs Thistle 2008’s who won the The Wallace Gemmell Shield last weekend, beating Valspar 3-2 - well done boys.

It was Barrfields again for goals last Friday night when Largs Thistle 35s, sponsored by Cullis Amusements played Largs Thistle Amateurs.

The Amateurs came back from 4-1 down to win 5-4 in a closely contested game. I am sure though if VAR had been in place the 35s would have won!

On Saturday, Largs Thistle enjoyed a superb 4-1 win over Hurlford United, with some great goals spread around the side. It is exciting times at Barrfields Park right now.

No football games for me this weekend as I went to the British Padel Tennis Tour event which was held at Stevenson - a great sport.

AC Milan reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 16 years, after beating Napoli.

The way they defended reminded me of the AC Milan team of the past. Franco Baresi played with AC Milan for 20 years, through their European Cup successses - what a defender he was. I thought I did well playing with Largs for 10 years, but 20 years is outstanding. What a servant he was to both Milan and the Italian national team.

He was at the heart of the Milan side who won the Serie A title in 1988 only conceding 14 goals. Other Milan defenders of that era included Alessandro Costacurta and Paolo Maldini. What a defence that was: happy to defend and keep clean sheets. There aren't many around like that nowadays.

AC Milan now play their city rivals Inter in the semi-finals, with Manchester City facing Real Madrid. Both of them great ties.

Another great game is in store in the Premier League this Wednesday, with Arsenal going to Manchester City and knowing they need three points if they're to go on and win the league.

Arsenal have dropped points in the past few games, but it’s still in their hands - though the same can be said of Manchester City.

It looks like it’s going to be some finish with Man City also eying up the Champions League and the FA Cup against Man United. The first ever meeting of the two city rivals in the FA Cup final should make a great end to the season in England.
