In this week's archive feature, we look back to 2010 when potholes were still very much a menace as they are nowadays, and Largs Rotary hosted their annual fun run which was a pre-cursor to the weekly Park Run we now have.

Keven Hutchinson was the race winner for the 26th Largs Rotary Fun Run and Rhona Bushfield from was the first female runner home and fourth overall. Both were congratulated with their medals by Rotarian Roy Ellison.

A motor mechanic business in Largs told the News that they were being overwhelmed with car repairs due to potholes.

North Ayrshire Council committed £1 million to road improvements in their budget and despite the problem providing additional business for J and J. Roberts garage, its owner John Roberts was concerned by the problem.

He said: "I have had the business for 17 years and I have never seen it as bad as this. We used to have to fit a new coil spring around once a month but now we average once  a day. It is down to the state of  the roads. You will find the same problem with all the garages in  the local area."

Nardini’s director John Fox demanded swift  action on the ongoing parking problem in Largs which ‘affects the whole of the town’.

At a Largs Community Council meeting in the Brisbane Centre, roads officials were invited to explain the town’s controversial new  traffic management scheme.

During an, at times, heated debate, residents and councillors alike questioned NAC and Transport Scotland.

However, while they pledged to improve the seafront car park and the tailbacks resulting from its queues, those in attendance also tackled the town’s long-running question of how to improve the limited parking capacity elsewhere.

Mr Fox added his voice to that debate, calling it 'the most common complaint' that he and his staff heard from visitors.

He told the ‘News’ that “the difficulty finding a place to park is very offputting for them” and insisted:

“It’s something we have to address. I think it’s something that’s got to be looked at as it’s now become a serious  problem.”
