Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

What a great result it was for Largs against Auchinleck Talbot last week. The only disappointing thing for me was that they did not score more goals. They certainly had the chances. I spoke to a lot of the Talbot fans and they were very complimentary about the Largs performance.

Congratulations also to Beith on winning the WoSFL Premier Division title on Saturday. With Darvel drawing 1-1 against Hurlford, Beith's 5-0 win against Kilwinning Rangers confirmed them as champions.

At the start of the season I actually thought Beith would struggle, but their manager Chris Strain has done a great job. He must have been particularly pleased to win it against Kilwinning, having been sacked by them last year.

With Beith winning the league and as they do not have a SFA licence three teams will now be relegated. Cambuslang and Petershill are gone already, with Kilwinning, Arthurlie and maybe Rob Roy in the mix for the other relegation spot.

I was at the Medda Wednesday Club last week listening to ex Talbot players Willie Young, Denis Gray and Ross Findlay tell some great stories of the “good old days” from three great players.

Discussion also took place on the WoSFL set up, the Lowland League, and SFA licensing. It will be very interesting to see what comes out of the WoSFL and the Lowland League AGMs this year to see what the proposals are related to the new Conference League, which is looking like season 24/25 for implementation.

Largs and Millport Weekly News: Michael Beale promises a rebuild at Rangers Michael Beale promises a rebuild at Rangers (Image: Newsquest)

Celtic beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi final on Sunday, and are now odds on to win the treble. It will be interesting to see what Rangers do now. Their manager, Michael Beale, has been talking a lot about rebuilds but can he deliver ?

In the SWPL , Rangers women blew it against Hearts conceding a 93rd-minute penalty to allow Hearts to equalise and secure a 1-1 draw. Glasgow City are currently at the top of the league, being chased by Celtic and Rangers.

Largs Thistle 35s, sponsored by Cullis Amusements, made it goals, goals, goals again at Barrfields in their first league game of the season, winning 5-4 against Shortlees.

It was a great performance, but man oh man, we were holding on for the last 10 minutes. Nonetheless, a winning start and three points - onwards and upwards!
