A SERIES of events in Largs and the surrounding area is planned for the weekend of the Coronation.

King Charles III will be officially crowned in a service at Westminster Abbey this Saturday, May 6.

Following the six-part coronation ceremony for the King, Camilla will also be anointed and crowned Queen in a smaller, simpler ceremony.

The Largs Community Garden is all set up for the coronation, while a number of shops around the town have also got into the mood.

The public can visit the decorated garden in Gogoside Road.

A spokesperson for Largs Community Council, which looks after the garden, said: "The wonderful crown was made by Jamie Black and there is also bunting around the garden. It looks really great."

Largs and surrounding towns and vilages are getting prepared with a busy line-up of events with a full schedule below.

Several shops in Largs have also put up coronation displays including Geraldo's, Cancer Research, Hays Travel, The Salvation Army and British Heart Foundation.

* Events taking place in the Largs area include the following: 

The RNLI Fundraising Committee are starting the Coronation weekend celebrations with an Afternoon Tea at Clark Memorial Church Hall on Thursday, May 4 from 2pm to 4pm. There will be scones generously donated by the Willowbank Hotel and home-made cakes with tea and coffee. There will also be souvenir and craft stalls, and the opportunity to win prizes on the Bottle Stall and Tombola. 

Their will be a celebration at the 173 Social Club at the Masonic Lodge on Saturday morning with the big screen on for main event.

The Royal British Legion Scotland club in Millport will be showing the coronation too. The club, in Reid Street, will open from midday on Saturday May 6 for the event, with refreshments served - including coronation chicken.

An indoor party event is happening in the West Kilbride Village Hall between 10am and 12.30pm with the Coronation being screened live. Call 01294 829590 to book your place.

Skelmorlie's Secret Bunker and Musuem will be celebrating King Charles III's coronation after securing funding to mark the special occasion.

Curator Frank Alexander is co-ordinating the celebration on the day, which will take place between 6-9pm on Saturday, May 6.

This will be a freebie to all visitors with free food, soft drinks, crisps biscuits with competition including prizes.

Largs United Guild are hosting a special Coronation Celebration event on Monday, May 8 at 2pm in the Dunn Memorial Hall and are promising "an afternoon of friendship and sharing".

Charles acceded to the throne on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8.
