A kind-hearted Skelmorlie trio got their walking shoes on to raise more than £700 in memory of an Inverkip woman.

Sean O’Hagan, Jimmy Law and Forbes Dowling walked from Glasgow Green to Balloch in the Kiltwalk to raise vital funds for Cystic Fibrosis charity the Butterfly Trust.

The trio were walking in memory of Karly Burns, who sadly died from the condition 10 years ago aged just 27.

Sean, 32, says Karly was a much-loved member of the community, and walking in her memory was an easy decision.

He explained: “Karly was a good family friend and this year marks the 10th anniversary of her sad passing.

“I was chatting to my foster dad Jimmy and I knew he and Forbes were doing the Kiltwalk again, so I decided this year I would join them.

“We had a discussion and we knew that raising money for the Butterfly Trust in memory of Karly was the best thing to do.

“They help with advocacy, advice, housing, education and everything else for those suffering with Cystic Fibrosis.”

Sean believes the Kiltwalk was a huge success, with even a bit of rain not putting off the hardy Skelmorlie trio.

He said: “This was my second time doing the Kiltwalk, after I completed it during the pandemic for Man On Inverclyde as one of their trustees.

“Jimmy and Forbes are old hands at it now and it all went very well, with not even the rain dampening our spirits.

“The three of us were able to chat and keep ourselves occupied, because walking for seven straight hours can get a bit tiresome.

“We had amazing support for the last three miles as those are mentally tough. The route seems like it goes on forever until you reach the finish line.”

The trio have set an ambitious target of £1,000 raised for the charity, and are hoping a music night later this month can push them over their total.

Sean added: “We have raised an amazing £690 on the JustGiving page and still have an event at Skelmorlie Bowling Club to come.

“We are hoping it can be a great night of music with lots more funds raised, with an overall target of £1,000.

“We have received so much support from the communities in Skelmorlie and Inverkip, where Karly was very well known.

“Unfortunately I think this will be Jimmy and Forbes’ last Kiltwalk, but I’m determined to keep going on their behalf and raise as much money as possible for lots of other good causes.”
