Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

The Largs v Kilwinning game on Saturday had that end-of-season feel about it, which surprised me as Kilwinning needed to win to avoid relegation.

I thought The Buffs would have been up for it more. They got their win but they still need to win their final two games away to Troon and Petershill and hope Arthurlie slip up in their final game against Glenafton.

It’s going to be all change at Kilbirnie Ladeside with their manager Shaun Dillon leaving the club. Kilbirnie are out of the promotion race after their past two results. It would have been nice to get the Largs v Kilbirnie games back.

So the Scottish Cup final Inverness v Celtic is to kick-off at 5.30pm.

Both clubs and both sets of fans do not want this time for kick-off. So why would the SFA schedule it at this time ? Currently the last train from Glasgow to Inverness leaves while the game might still be in play. Crazy stuff from the SFA. Why would we move it because the FA cup is kicking off at 3pm? The fans are just not being considered here .

Lots of debates going on about the proposed new conference league. From what I gather it’s being driven by the SFA & SPFL and basically is a done deal for season 24/25. There are a few unhappy clubs out there. My fear would be that clubs like Darvel, Kilwinning, Talbot, Meadow the clubs who have invested in their infrastructure are invited into the Lowland League to make up for teams going into the new conference, where would that leave Largs. It will be good to hear Largs Thistle's position.

I went to the Morton V Cove game on Friday night. There was great drama with both teams needing to win. The problem though was that you could only see half the park because of the fog.

The game really should have not taken place if the near 2,000 crowd had been taken into consideration. Morton did their bit in winning but they still missed the playoffs by goal difference. Due to the defeat Cove were relegated. With Ayr in the playoffs and Kilmarnock still down at the bottom of the Premier League we could have a Ayr v Killie tie for a place in the top league.  That would be a good Ayrshire derby to see.

In SPFL2 it’s Albion Rovers who finished bottom and play off against Spartans from the Lowland League who beat Brechin the Highland League winners in their play off. We could be seeing a new club in the SPFL.
