A MILLPORT youngster is set for her crowning moment this weekend after being chosen as this year’s Cumbrae Queen.

Allanah Violet Gardiner, 11, will be crowned with much fanfare at Garrison House on Saturday as part of a busy weekend of activities on the island.

The Cumbrae Primary pupil, who has Down syndrome, will also be treated to an afternoon tea and will help to survey a classic car show in the Garrison grounds.

Allanah’s mum Julie revealed the youngster was over the moon when she found out she was chosen as this year’s queen.

The pair are now hoping for nice weather to make the crowning even more special.

She said: “Allanah was born and raised on the island, and is a much-loved member of the Cumbrae Primary School community.

“You could scrape her off the ceiling. She is so excited for the big day and seeing everyone for the first time as the Cumbrae Queen.

“When she got told in school, I thought she had got into trouble at first, but she was over the moon to be picked.

“I know she has to give a speech, and will have afternoon tea inside the Garrison House, as well as walk around the classic car show.

“I think everyone in Millport knows Allanah, and we are all hoping the weather is nice for a fantastic day to remember.”

Julie says Allanah is a clever girl who loves all her subjects at school, is a talented singer and dancer, and can make a mean cake.

She added: “Allanah loves dancing and singing so wherever she can she’ll be entertaining everyone with her talents.

“She loves school and doing all her subjects, but especially reading and English which are two of her favourites.

“She also has a secret love for baking and loves making cakes, with her speciality being a lovely Victoria sponge.”

Cumbrae Queen organiser Gail Murphy is urging islanders and visitors to come out on Saturday and see Allanah’s crowning moment.

She said: “The committee would like to congratulate Allanah on being selected as Cumbrae Queen this year, and wish her all the best for the coming year.

“She will be crowned on Saturday, May 13 at 2pm at the Garrison sunken gardens, attended by her maids and page boys.”

The Millport Classic Car Show will also take place in the Garrison grounds this Saturday, from 10am until 4pm.
