The new factory director of the imminent cable production facility to be built at Hunterston has been named.

Georgios Eleftheriadis will run the XLCC factory, which will produce high-voltage direct current cables to be shipped out and laid across the world.

Georgios has 15 years of experience in the industry specialising in EHV underground cables and HV submarine cables manufacturing.

The company says he brings extensive managerial knowledge, including holding a Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt with further knowledge in Integrated Process Management.

XLCC added: “These skills were essential to Georgios’ role at Hellenic Cables, where he oversaw business transformation and ever-rising operational standards.

“Georgios has a Master of Science in advanced manufacturing systems and management, as well as a Master of Business Administration.”

The new factory director says he can’t wait to get started, and to bring Hunterston to the forefront of the industry on a global scale.

Georgios said: “Cables have long been the backbone of our technology-enabled connected world, and they are playing an increasing role in the new era of net zero focused growth.

“Innovative and robust cable technology will be vital to distribute clean energy from areas of generation to areas of consumption.

“I am delighted to be joining XLCC as they look to open their new Hunterston facility and to engage the team in making a huge impact on the global industry.”

Ian Douglas, chief executive at XLCC, added: “Georgios’ wealth of knowledge and experience in the sector will be very important in making XLCC a leader in the subsea HVDC cable industry.

“We are very privileged to have Georgios joining the team at such an important and exciting time as we look to break ground on our factory.”
