Kelburn Castle was set to undergo a unique restoration following a fire which sparked headlines around the world.

It was hoped that the castle would be fully resurrected and open for functions within forthcoming months.

In February, a blaze broke out in the billiards room area  of the 13th century building, but the fire brigade were on the scene quickly to help extinguish the blaze.

An electrical fault in the boiler unit resulted in Lord Glasgow and his son David Boyle fleeing the castle, and both praised the endeavours of the local fire service in helping to save many important historical artefacts.
