Largs Academy pupils received the seal of approval after helping to spruce up Douglas Park as part of their volunteer day.

Caroline Le Good Morgan, who is one of the park's founding volunteers, thanked the pupils for their blooming great effort on the day.

She said: "We had a great day at the park, and are very grateful to Largs Academy for sending six of their students to carry out tasks.

"That included repairing the Bug Hotel, clearing debris from the burn, riddling and spreading DPP compost, raking leaves, spreading bee bombs, watering plants, filling bird baths and removing dead wood from the nature trail.

"The students were extremely polite, willing to work hard and are an absolute credit to their parents and the school."

Caroline and Wendy Low Thompson helped set up The Douglas Park project three years ago with the aim of preserving the beautiful surroundings for the enjoyment of the community.

The restoration has won awards, with a band of volunteers helping on a daily basis, and community events taking place at the park, including a recent children's Easter Egg hunt.
