Kirkintilloch Rob Roy 0, Largs Thistle 1

Largs Thistle pulled off a fantastic win over Rob Roy to end their away campaign on a high - with boss Stuart Davidson praising a defensive masterclass from his team.

Davidson rang the changes for the Guy's Meadow clash, with Jamie Walker taking over the goalkeeping gloves, John Tennant and Connor McGoldrick returning to defence, and long serving skipper Scott Adam upfront.

Sub Craig Forbes netted the winner.

Davidson said: "It was an important win to bounce back from our defeat to Kilwinning on Saturday.

"I thought the performance was better and we had a bit more hunger about us and while it wasn't pretty we did enough to pick up the points."

It was a cagey opening to this encounter with midfielder David McGrath having to receive treatment for a head injury.

Largs had a good chance when Adam flicked on to David Ramsay who fired in dangerous shot but the Rob Roy keeper was equal to it with a top drawer save.

The winning goal was scored on 70 minutes when a high ball out of defence was met by Adam, who turned and twisted his way past defenders on the wing before sending a deep cross to the back post which was headed home by Forbes.

Davidson added: "It was a really good team performance.

"We made some changes with Tennant, McGoldrick, Addie (Scott Adam) and Walker starting.

"I thought we were relatively solid at the back with the return of McGoldrick and Tennant alongside Cory Hughes.

"It was good for Jamie Walker to receive a shut-out and he made a vital save.

"Connor had returned to training on Monday evening and it was good having his height advantage.

"Cory Hughes deserves a lot of praise too having featured in the West of Scotland Premier League team of the year.

"He goes about his business brilliantly, winning headers, and has good pace and is comfortable on the ball.

"It is great recognition for his endeavour - and we are delighted to have signed him up for two more years."

Will Sewell also came off the bench and his direct running also caused problems for the Rabs defence as time was played out.

Largs round off the season on Saturday at home to Pollok and will finish 6th in the Premier League if they can finish their campaign with a victory.

Kick-off at Barrfields is at 2pm.

Largs: Walker, Tennent, Devine, Hughes, McGoldrick, Faulds, McLeod, Davidson, Ramsay, Adam, McGrath. Subs: Sewell, Martin, McBryde, McCreath, Nimmo, Forbes, McGowan.
