Fearsome Viking invaders were back in Largs this week - but all was not as it may have seemed at first glance.

The Norse warriors were spotted at various busines premises around the town as part of a promotion for the Viking Festival which is taking place in September.

A festival spokeserspon said: "The Vikings are out and about in Largs. If you see them give them a shout and get a photo.

"Thank you to the local businesses who have already given us your support."

It appear the Vikings of the modern era are more of the peaceful variety as can be seen in the picture below, taken when Geraldo's owner Toni Dawson encountered this Scandinavian duo.

A festival spokesperson said: "We will be bringing you all our festival favourites such as the opening parade and ceremony, live entertainment, fringe events, food and craft market, air displays, axe throwing, full Viking village and the ever popular Festival of Fire, with fire procession.

"As well as the Viking skirmish, burning of the long boat, entertainment, and ending in a fabulous firework display."
