Skelmorlie Primary School has been saluted by inspectors for developing children who are “confident, articulate and proud” of their primary.

Inspectors visited the school in March and talked to parents and carers as well as the pupils.

The positive relationships children have with each other and the staff, and the “effective” teamwork that is used by the teaching staff to plan and deliver support, were also flagged up.

And there was also praise for the staff working together to break down learning barriers for pupils.

They said: “Children benefit from learning in a range of motivating learning spaces and through increasingly relevant contexts.

"This supports children well to understand how their learning in the classroom links to their life beyond school.”

The evaluation also found that quality indicators for Learning, Teaching and Assessment and Raising Attainment and Achievement are “good” at the Innes Park Road school.

Two areas for improvement identified were that the school must continue to develop approaches to planning learning in all subjects, ensuring pupils are being challenged and continue to develop approaches that help track and monitor children’s progress and attainment.

The village school, which has 80 pupils across its four classes, has been praised for having a “very nurturing and inclusive ethos” and Mrs Cathcart and her team were also commended for creating positive relationships that reflect the school’s values and the children’s rights.

Headteacher Lynne Cathcart said: “I am very pleased that the inspectors have acknowledged how confident and proud our pupils are of our school, and how well my team supports the children."

Councillor Shaun Macaulay, Cabinet Member for Education and Young People, said: “It is encouraging to see that the staff and pupils have received such a positive report.

"And it is especially pleasing to see that the inspectors have noted pupils are contributing well to their local community.”
