A Wemyss Bay butcher has struck gold with its special products for the summer at this year’s Craft Butcher Awards.

McCaskie’s tasted success in the recent evaluation for speciality burgers and Make it With Haggis that were judged at Forth Valley College in Stirling last month.

The popular butcher came out on top in the Make it With Haggis awards, achieving gold awards for chicken and haggis nacho parma and Highland haggis kiev.

It also took home silver awards for their innovative Highland haggis spring roll, haggis neeps and tatties pakora, roberto burenos taco, haggis cannelloni and haggis and pepper sausage dog.

The butcher also tasted success with silver awards for its gourmet deluxe Angus burger, Highland Angus burger and Moroccan lamb burger. 

The butcher is owned by Nigel Ovens, whose family have been in charge of the business since 1935.

At the event in Perth there were 164 entries in the Speciality Burger category, and 145 entries in the Make it With Haggis category.

In March, the business was selected as a finalist for the Scottish Butchershop of the Year Awards 2023.

Largs butcher A D Paton also took home a host of awards, including gold for its spicy thai burger and salt and chilli chicken stuffed with haggis.
