A couple set to marry at Portencross Castle on Saturday have asked for the public's help with a special request.

Craig Waites and partner Melanie Murphy fundraised thousands of pounds to help them wed, after Craig was tragically diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Not knowing how long he had to live, the couple of five years are getting married as soon as possible at Portencross after falling in love with the site during a visit back in 2019.

Melanie said: "Myself and my partner are actually getting married at a couple of months short notice after a pretty bad time.

"We visited Portencross in 2019 and for a small £2.50 a month donation became guardians of the castle.

"And this Saturday with a small group of family and friends we have nearly managed to pull it all together to be wed."

The couple are hoping a kind local can help fulfil their wish of arriving at the ceremony in an ice cream van.

The ceremony is at 2:30pm, and anyone who can help can contact the News to pass on the message.
