Volunteers in Brighton caught 55 drivers speeding in just one day, according to Sussex Police.

The catch was made by the Community Speedwatch group in Freshfield Road, Brighton, last week.

The group checked 130 vehicles and found that 55 of them were moving too fast, an alarming sign for the community, Sussex Police said.

A spokesman added: "Speeding is a concern to many local communities and volunteers are still needed for Community Speedwatch!

"Full training will be given for this role by Sussex Police. "

The Argus:

Community Speedwatch is a national initiative that combines proactive members of local communities with police support to record details of speeding vehicles using approved detection devices.

Volunteers in the program receive full training from the authorities.

Sussex Police has called for more volunteers to join the speed-watch movement, adding that repeat offenders will receive a visit from the local police.

Registered keepers of vehicles exceeding the speed limit are first contacted with a letter explaining the potential risks and consequences of their dangerous behaviour.
