THE community volunteers who have helped Wemyss Bay win the World Cup of Stations crown have been hailed for their efforts by a local MSP.

The architectural gem has been voted the UK's best loved station and crowned World Cup of Stations champion for 2023.

Anad Katy Clark, Scottish Labour MSP for West Scotland, said: “I’m thrilled the public has recognised how distinctive Wemyss Bay station is, much loved by local residents and tourists alike.

“Since its 1903 rebuild, it has stood out for its spectacular architecture, charming floral displays and picturesque views.

"The work of groups like Friends of Wemyss Bay Station, along with the staff and local community, have ensured it continues to appeal to generation after generation.

Ms Clark, who lives in neighbouring village Skelmorlie, added: “With its wide walkways, it’s also easy for crowds to navigate, and serves a reminder of how important it is to invest in rail infrastructure, particularly as we seek to encourage more people to travel sustainably by train.

"I congratulate all those who make the station so special.”
