Scottish Fire and Rescue have confirmed that they are currently attending the scene near a Scottish Water dam on the back hills, near Bellsdale Avenue.
They received the call at 5.55pm - and another fire appliance is on its way.
Due to the winds the plumes of smoke are travelling as far as the town centre.
A local businessman told the News that the Main Street is 'full of smoke'.
Thank you to Chris Boyd and Todd Ferguson for the photos.
