A POPULAR Largs entertainment company has no plans to rest after their biggest ever tour across the UK, playing to tens of thousands of fans.

The McDougalls, who run popular online and in-person theatre shows for youngsters, played 60 venues over the course of seven months during their Magic Castle tour.

Creator Ryan Moir, who takes to the stage to sing and dance, says the show proved so popular that they were forced to add more dates throughout the tour.

He said: “It didn’t seem like so many when we were in the midst of the tour, but it’s only now when we sat at the end we realised how many venues we played.

“We played a lot of shows from our Christmas specials, the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, Aberdeen, and all the north of England venues in between.

“We had a number of venues initially when we started in November, but it was so popular we had to add more dates.

“Some other new places cropped up, and it just grew from there until we finished a few weeks ago.”

Ryan says the performers are keen to book shows in new places, after their audience surged during the pandemic.

He said: “We just want to take in a lot of new places, and play a lot of smaller towns that we haven’t been to before.

“It used to be that before Covid we did three or four different tours a year, now it takes us six months to get round all the regular venues.

“Off the back of Covid we found a much bigger audience out there for our shows after we performed online for two years.

“We like to identify little pockets of support and go there so we are covering as far and wide as possible so more people get to see our shows.”

After playing to tens of thousands during their Magic Castle tour, Ryan is getting straight back into costume for the McDougalls' new Space Adventure show.

He added: “Our new show starts in August, so we have had a month to reset everything and get the new performance perfected.

“The space show was due to start at Easter time, but because of the success of Magic Castle, we had to push it back.

“We have a lot of Ayrshire dates initially, so it will be nice to play to a familiar audience and it’s always a good atmosphere here.

“We will then head to England in October and later next year too, and we can hopefully keep adding dates and venues if it proves popular.”
