Emergency services were called to a man overboard signal in the Firth of Clyde near Largs on Wednesday.
Largs RNLI raced to the scene in the Hunterston Channel, supported by members of the Largs and Cumbrae coastguard rescue teams.
Following a search of the coastline, the vessel emitting the signal was located and it was found to be a false alarm.
