Two management staff from Morrisons have been praised for their excellent help and support to an elderly couple.

The family involved contacted the News to thank the Morrisons staff for their speedy and helpful assistance after a woman, in her 80s, took ill.

The customer is now making a good recovery.

The husband said: "My wife took a bad turn and she lay on the floor in Morrisons waiting for an ambulance. After two hours, she felt that we should chance taking her by my car up to Inverclyde.

"We spent over five hours at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and she is better.

"The management staff at Morrisons could not have been any more supportive. The aisle was closed. They provided some clothing to keep her warm and were in attendance for the full duration of our crisis.

"Coffee was provided and they responded to any help I requested. They were excellent, and it would be nice to see them recognised for their quick and responsible actions on the day."

The duo who came to the couple's assistance were Richard Stracey, 53, and Mark Connelly, 39.

Richard said: "She was basically in the aisle lying on her back and we made her comfortable by getting her blankets and getting her and her husband cups of tea, and closing off the shopping aisle.

"We got her some chocolates as she wanted some sugar, we were waiting for the ambulance but it never came, and by the time she was sufficiently ok, her husband was able to take her to the hospital, and I took their shopping back to their house.

"She started to recover a bit more and we got her sat her up into a chair and helped them out and on their way. "

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Mark said: "The right thing to do was to close off the aisle and the supermarket was still able to operate as our customer's health was our utmost priority.

"At the end of the day, if it was your mum or your dad, you would hope to look after your parents in the same way.

"We carried on interacting with them and made it a bit less of a stressful situation than what it could have been.

"The most important thing is the health of our customers, and you have to make sure everyone is taken care of."

Mark added: "As Richard said, it could have been our relatives, you would expect them to be taken care of in the same way, so it was nice to give that bit of extra thought, care and attention.

The couple told the News that they were most impressed with the professional service offered by the two managers, who stayed with them throughout the duration of the incident, and provided welcome help and support throughout their ordeal.

Richard added: "We put jackets down and made sure she was not lying on the cold floor.

"We were trying to make sure we were looking after them and had the correct things and they felt comfortable. At one point the lady felt a bit light-headed and we had some chocolate, which helped.

"It was at least a couple of hours, and I am glad she felt at ease and it made her feel comfortable.

"The most important thing is that she is on the mend and that is the good news story. As long as she was ok, we were happy."
