North Ayrshire and Arran MP Patricia Gibson is linking up with Dolly Parton to help inspire a love of reading in children.

The SNP MP met with representatives of the singer’s Imagination Library, which is a book gift giving programme.

Each month a high quality, age-appropriate book for children from birth to age five is delivered to youngsters who are registered with the charity.

The books are specially wrapped and addressed to the child, and are delivered at no cost to the family.

Mrs Gibson has hailed their work, and is urging people to find out more about the programme.

She said: “This organisation has had a presence in the UK since 2008 and is reaching more and more children each month.

“The books are carefully selected, and full of variety. They include traditional stories and rhymes, books by beloved authors and illustrators, non-fiction content, and newly published titles.”
