Local growers, flower arrangers, handi-crafters, bakers and children have been busy preparing their exhibits for Largs Flower Show, which is being held on Saturday, August 26 from 10am-4.30pm in Dunn Memorial Hall, St John’s Church, Bath Street, Largs.

With around 400 entries, the celebration of local horticulture and crafts is a sight to behold and a feast of colour, scent and talent.

On show will be a wide variety of pot plants including fuchsias, begonias, and beautiful cut flowers; vegetables, fruit and herbs; floral art; handicrafts; baking and preserves.

The ever popular junior section is a must-see with miniature gardens, fruit and veg animals, flower arrangements and handicrafts. You will be amazed at the children’s creativity and imagination - it’s sure to bring a smile to your face.

There will be Viking shields made from flowers, greenery and other natural materials on display as the kids compete for the coveted Viking Festival Cup, prizes and goody bags courtesy of the Viking Festival committee.

Even the local nursery and early learning classes have been busy bees preparing their Little Magical Gardens in a window box for the Haylie Stores sponsored class.

School pupils have been working hard growing and creating their baskets of produce for the huge Cardwell Garden Centre Shield.

First time exhibitors and school pupils will be competing for the LDHS Cups for Flowers and Vegetables and the Hugh Honeyman Medal for a vase of six roses, while the National Vegetable Society Medal will be awarded for the Best Vegetable.

The sponsored class for allotments/community garden organisations will bring a basket of produce plus information about the garden/allotment to the show bench.

Not forgetting the bakers who, in addition to the array of baking classes, have their very own West Coast Cakes sponsored Bake-off a decorated cake to be judged.

An excellent raffle will take place – special thanks to all the local businesses and individuals that have contributed to this and the sponsored classes. The Society is very grateful for your support.

Largs Viking Festival will be in the hall with some festival gifts and information on what's on during this year's festival.

With something for everyone Largs Flower Show is sure to brighten up your day – so come along and enjoy this wonderful long running community event. Local gardeners, crafters, floral artists and children will be there so iIt’s the ideal time to pick up some gardening/growing tips.

The very first Flower Show was held in Largs in 1841, and is still blooming today.
