A businessman has thanked the Largs community after an online appeal helped reunite a lost birthday card.

Graeme Tudhope, co-owner of pop-up cocktail bar DriftBar, received the birthday card containing £30 in the post last month.

After failing to read the smudged address, he took to Facebook to share an appeal in the hopes of finding the birthday boy.

Graeme said: “I received a brown envelope at home and initially thinking it was generic mail, I set it aside.

“A few weeks later upon opening it, I was surprised to find it was a birthday card, complete with £30 inside addressed to someone else.

“Unfortunately, rain had smudged the surname on the envelope, making it difficult to identify the intended recipient.

“I spoke to the neighbours and they had no idea who it was, so I decided to put out an appeal online using our business page.”

Graeme revealed that just hours after the appeal was posted online and shared by locals, the rightful owner of the card came forward.

He explained: “I tried the usual routes to find the owner, such as searching social media, but it was to no avail.

“I turned to the Facebook community and shared the appeal to the local Largs People group too, and asked if anyone recognised the card or knew who it belonged to.

“There was not even a surname - but within a few hours the mum of the birthday boy got in touch to say it was intended for them.

“She lives in Haco Street and I’m in Brisbane Road, so we’re really not that far away but for some reason her mail came to me.”

Graeme has thanked the Largs community for making sure the card got back to its rightful owner, a teen celebrating his 17th birthday.

He added: “It was nice that her son eventually got the birthday card for his 17th, and what teenager doesn’t love receiving £30?

“We had lots of people sharing the post and wanting to help, so it was nice to know it went to the right person.

“I would like to think that most people would do the same, and try to find whoever it was that it was intended for.

“Apparently the boy's auntie had been sending her cards to the wrong address for ages, and I was the first one to try and deliver it on.”
