A bus and a lorry collided on the A78 Largs-Kilbirnie road this morning at a hairpin bend on the Haylie Brae.

There were seven passengers on the McGills 904 bus, six of whom were Academy pupils, and it is understood there were no serious injuries following the incident, which happened at approximately 8.20am this morning, October 9.

One pupil was taken to Crosshouse Hospital by a guardian as a precautionary measure.

Reports suggest both drivers of the bus and lorry were ok and had no injuries.

An eye witness, who helped at the scene, said at 10.20am: "The A760 is currently closed at the Haylie Brae, awaiting recovery of vehicles. Police are in attendance.

"The crash happened at approximately 8.20am, seven passengers on the bus (six Largs Academy pupils) and there were no serious injuries. One pupil was taken to Crosshouse hospital by Guardian as a precautionary measure.

"A teacher happened to be in the car behind the bus and witnessed the accident. She was in communication with the school.

"The head teacher of Largs Academy collected the remaining children from the scene, after they had been checked by paramedic ambulance staff and cleared to go by police."

Both vehicles have now been removed from the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 8.40am on Monday, 9 October, to a report of a crash involving a school bus and a HGV on the A760, Dalry Road, Largs.

“Emergency services attended and there were no reported injuries. One teenage boy attended hospital as a precaution.

“The road is currently closed while recovery of the vehicles is arranged.”
