A water issue at a popular beauty spot on Largs' promenade "is not been addressed", despite the matter being reported to the authorities last week.

Conservative Councillor Tom Marshall contacted Scottish Water in relation to the issue, which is affecting the path north of the Pencil after "spilling out" due to a leak.

Largs and Millport Weekly News: He is calling upon Scottish Water to address the issue immediately before the colder weather arrives and could potential ice over.

Councillor Marshall said: "I reported this leak almost a week ago and think it has taken Scottish Water too long to effect a repair given the flood water spills over the promenade creating a hazard to users.

"I know that a few other residents have contacted Scottish Water but to no avail. The last time there was a burst like this it was sorted out within a day, but the fix was ineffective, as it has happened again.

"The danger now is if it turns could and icy it could be a major slip hazard but with the autumn leaves it is already a hazard."

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

"It is pretty bad and flows right down to the beach and it means people can't sit on the benches either as the stream goes right across the prom."

"The area is popular with dog walkers and sightseers and it should not be allowed to run like this for a week -  hopefully something can be done about this as soon as possible."

Largs and Millport Weekly News: A Scottish Water spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to the small number of customers who have been affected by this burst and thank them for their patience and understanding.”

The News understands that after after attending the scene on the day of the complaint to locate the burst, a repair was attempted but specialist equipment was required to access the damaged pipe. The repair is scheduled to be carried out tomorrow afternoon.
