Two women will be hosting 'Wild Wool' taster sessions over the next couple of months in West Kilbride.

Jeni Lennox from Creative Works and Ange Sewell from Weft Blown are hosting 'Wild Wool' taster sessions in November and December at the Barony Centre.

Wool is seen as waste by local farmers in North Ayrshire, who lose about £1 on every fleece they shear.

The aim of the sessions on Thursdays from 7-9pm is to promote the benefits of repurposing waste wool to farmers and crafters by making some beautiful bits and pieces and giving something back to the farmers to encourage them to keep producing the material.

They will use surplus West Kilbride wool from local commercial farms for their six introduction classes to traditional wool techniques; weaving, felting, spinning, carding, dying and rug making.

Upcoming sessions

  • Peg Loom Weaving on November 9 at the Barony Centre

  • Flat Wool Felting on November 23 at Hope Jacare Studio on 117 Main Street in West Kilbride

  • Carding and Felted Rugs on November 30 at The Barony Centre

  • Wool Dying (TBC) on December 7 at The Barony Centre

  • Spinning on December 14 at The Barony Centre

  • Weaving on December 21 at The Barony Centre

Payment is by suggested donation of £10 per session – anyone is welcome, with people invited to pay what they can afford.

People who are interested are asked to book in advance as places will be limited by emailing Jeni at Wkcreativeworks@gmail.com.

Fleece will be available to all for a suggested donation of £10 for the equivalent of a full fleece.
